Sweater outfits have one advantage – something that has remained a constant through the decades and changing fashion trends. If you wear the right one, it will immediately add a certain welcoming warmth to your personality. There’s a genial, heartening aspect to them that add a more humane touch to the outfit.
But picking the right sweater? That is a whole different ball game. Not only do you have to find one with the kind of weave that comforts you and suits you, you also have to buy one with a sustainable weave, something that will brave the seasons and make it through the years.
And sweaters have so many kinds of weaves, thanks to the obsession that the fashion industry has had with them. Picking the kind of wool and weave that makes an impression but does not compromise on the warmth and comfort – it takes a lot of practice.
Don’t worry though. We have got you covered. With these five looks that we have curated, not only will you have ideas for some phenomenal fits, you can also use these to understand what kind of knitwear you might be the most comfortable with

5 Cool Sweater Outfits For Men
Outfit 1
Let’s begin with an outfit that does the job in the changing seasons. The snug Aran sweater that you see in this look can come in very handy in the autumn. Pair a white Aran sweater like this one with fitted dark blue trousers, and contrast the cool tones of the blue with a warm brown in the shoes.
Bear in mind – Aran sweaters come in very different fits, and they can often be very thick, especially if they are hand knit. We recommend getting a machine-made kind if you want a fitted silhouette.
Outfit 2
You can also go for a classic blue wool pullover like this one. This is also a great autumn outfit, and the white trousers and the matching white sneakers make the dark blue tone stand out without being too overpowering.
You can get a cashmere pullover as well, but good quality cashmere tends to be deceptively warm even when it looks all too thin as a fabric for the winters. So, if you are specifically looking for something that does the job in a lighter winter, go for classic wool. Standard wool will also give you a really snug fit.
Outfit 3
With this one, we are jumping straight into the most elegant of sweaters. The sweater that you see in this outfit is an elegant grey cable-knit. And very few knits have been as legendary, and gone through as many interpretations as this one. The cable-knit pattern was inspired from fishermen’s ropes.
It is one of the most sophisticated sweaters today, especially when you pair them with something that subtly contrasts them – like the ochre cord trousers and the white shirt underneath. Cable knits are flexible enough to be layered, or to stand alone. Keep your boots classic and understated though.
Outfit 4
As you can see with both the previous outfit and this one, layering your look right is a major part of winter outfits. With a sophisticated grey round-neck, a vintage denim undershirt, pitch black trousers and aged brown boots, this look is absolutely golden.
Every element of it, even the unassuming but classic watch, is perfect. However, keep in mind that denim shirts in general tend to be at least a little oversized. If you don’t get a fitted shirt, the round-neck will look really shabby on top of it. Also, take note of how the trouser covers the ankles of the boots to keep the look neat.
Outfit 5
Sweaters also give you an opportunity to get into some inventive color blocking. But, as always, the key to good color blocking is to know where to balance it out. Notice how the oxblood cable-knit pullover and the pine green shirt are at stark contrast here?
It looks really fashion forward as an outfit, and it holds on to the darker, moodier color palette for winters really well. The denims and the shoes add other shades, but in an understated way. The trick behind the balanced nature of the outfit is in how the socks perfectly match with the shirt.
