Most people believe that cocktail attire for men means casual dress code. But, that's far from the truth.
In fact, men's cocktail dress code is actually a semi-formal dress code with edgy details. Men's cocktail dress code has origins in the 20's and 30's. When rich started drinking before dinner mostly at the weddings.
However, today, men's cocktail attire is not limited to weddings only. Now, guys prefer to wear a cocktail dress code at parties and other social engagements.
I'm sure some of you are still wondering what exactly is a cocktail attire for men? Fret not,
I've curated some amazing cocktail attire outfit ideas to help you look sharp.
But, first, let's understand what cocktail dress is?

What is cocktail attire for men?
To explain it in the simplest term, it's a perfect balance between the formal dress code and casual outfits.
Hence, consider cocktail attire as a semi formal outfit.
In the past, cocktail attire meant only a tuxedo or a super formal suit outfit. However, today, there are more variations to it than you think of.
You cocktail outfit depends on a ton of things now.
- The Occasion
- The Location
- Your Relationship With The Guest.
and much more...
For, example, you wouldn't want to wear a black tuxedo to beach wedding cocktail party. Right?
And, it would be stupid to arrive in a pastel suit for the office Christmas party at an upscale bar.
You get the point, right?
But, one thing that's important to note is that cocktail attire is not either jeans and t-shirt not it's navy blue pinstripe suit with ties and pocket square and all the jazz.
It's right in between the two.
You can wear a nice crew neck t-shirt with jeans and a blazer if you are going to your friend's bachelor cocktail party.
And if you are going to your office's cocktail part where you might meet your boss or a few clients then it's a good idea switch the crew neck tee with a formal shirt and jeans with a pair of chinos or pants.
One thing that makes me sad about cocktail attire is that you can not wear sneakers with any of the outfits.
Yes, it's not a good idea to wear any type sneakers with your cocktail outfit. Even if you are wearing a jeans+t-shirt+blazer outfit. However, you can definitely wear nice pair loafers or monk shoes with that outfit.
